Coffee and books go together as well as ink on paper. Whether it is reading works by distinguished authors such as Stephen King or Brandon Sanderson, or diving deep into the intricate workings of differing philosophies or mythologies, books can offer insight to different worlds and help understand the current one just a little better. Similarly, just as one finds comfort in the world bound between two covers, coffee warms the bones from the weight of the day, offering a much needed pick up and giving boost of energy to all who need it and giving fuel to tackle the troubles of the day to day life. Perhaps that is why cafes have become synonymous with reading, whether it be the scripture of a textbook, the pages of a good book, or the electronic screen of a laptop. Cafes, similar to books, give people a chance to take a break and to relax, and even if reading is not one's preferred pastime, very few can refuse a warm pastry or refreshing drink.
Libraries are the definition of comfort in silence. They are a safe space for people to hang out, study, and enjoy reading whatever is on the shelves, all with the comfort of friends or in silence. The quality time spent here is not forced and no one bothers another; instead it is a space for people to gather without wanting to speak. Lately, more and more libraries and bookstores have started accommodating cafes, and while some may dislike the increased foot traffic, the benefits seem to far outweigh the negatives. Instead of fumbling and bringing coffee or drinks, patrons can purchase from the cafe within the library, often supporting the business and helping out the library itself. Even if someone were to bring a drink, there is a high chance they run out, especially if it is an extended stay, but the cafe will be able to solve that problem just by being open and selling delicious drinks or sweet treats. For those studying, stretching your legs and walking over for a soothing refreshment can be just what is needed to get back to the books and work towards getting that good grade.
